Planetary Gearbox Assemblies

Housed or open planetary assemblies discussed with the motor or hydraulic input, output connection, bearing support, braking or holding concept, lubrication, sealing and machine duty.

Category overview

Define the complete engineering context

A complete gearbox RFQ extends beyond ratio and torque. The housing, bearings, shafts, lubrication, sealing, mounting, motor or hydraulic input and output-load path must be defined as one integrated system.

  • Controlled tooth and mating-part data
  • Installation datums and interface envelope
  • Duty cycle, environment and acceptance method

Application context

Where this product family is used

Industrial automation

Servo-driven joints and axes where motor interface, lost motion, reversing duty and output support require coordinated review.

Mobile machinery

Travel, swing and wheel-drive assemblies exposed to shock, contamination, braking loads and restricted installation space.

Process and lifting equipment

Mixers, drums, winches and production machinery that need defined starting load, holding behavior, lubrication and service access.

Selection variables to include in the RFQ

Data group Information to provide
Input interface Motor or hydraulic drive flange, shaft, pilot, coupling, brake and encoder requirements.
Output interface Shaft or flange geometry, external radial/axial loads, support-bearing responsibility and retention.
Operating envelope Speed, continuous and peak torque, starts, reversals, jams, backdriving and duty cycle.
Mounting and environment Orientation, base or flange mounting, temperature, contamination, corrosion and ingress controls.
Lubrication and service Oil or grease strategy, fill/drain access, sealing, maintenance interval basis and inspection access.
Acceptance Dimensional records plus agreed rotation, contact, leakage, noise, vibration or functional tests.

Category FAQ

Is ratio enough to select a planetary gearbox?

No. Ratio is one input. Duty, interfaces, output loads, mounting, environment, lubrication and acceptance tests determine whether a gearbox can be integrated.

Can the gearbox support the machine load directly?

Only when the output bearings and housing are designed for the stated radial, axial and overturning loads. Separate transmitted torque from structural load in the RFQ.

What should be included in the supplier scope?

List the gear train, housing, bearings, shafts, seals, lubricant, brake, motor adapter, encoder interface and any buyer-supplied items so responsibilities are explicit.
